Hot moments…
It’s summertime and the sanctuary is hot…filled with new graduates hot to go on in adventurous ways, old friends hot to plan time at the beach together and hot with dreams as people plan vacations and hope for healing. Ok, it was also hot as the temperature crept past 90 degrees.
I was hot to get home and begin packing for vacation. As I tried to leave one of my friends started to pat Jeannie and tell me about going to camp this summer. Another stopped us to share her plans for summer work. A third had Jeannie shake paws and told about his hope for a hot new job.
It was then that I remembered that isn’t the going, it’s the being that’s important. Being with friends and neighbors, being with family and strangers. Hanging out, eating brownies and ice cream. patting the dog and reading a book on the Nook or even the old way, off paper pages. It is the being thats important.
When I remember to name it sacred time, it’s even more important. That’s when I’m aware of God’s presence in new ways. God is there in the graduation events. God is cool melting with the after church ice cream sundaes, God is laughing as Jeannie shakes a paw and God is going to be with us wherever we roam…home, the beach, Nova Scotia, down on the farm or in Costa Rica. God is with us even when we are rushing to pack, hustling to get work done or hanging out at the pool.
That’s the summer good news I’m going to try and live into every hot moment of the day especially when I’m on vacation.
